Carson Koverman is a 5th grade student at Erickson Elementary and has gone above and beyond to bring new clubs to Erickson.
Carson came up with the idea that Erickson should have clubs led by students. Carson decided to write a proposal to the principal to have more clubs that kids would enjoy. That is how the Club Creation Contest started for grades 1-5.
After meeting with the principal, Carson pitched the Student Creation Contest idea to the Student Council to gain their support. Student Council loved the idea!
Carson created the club requirements, contest flyers to put around the school and in the Erickson Express newsletter, the forms for students to fill out to submit an idea, as well as, a scoring rubric for students to vote on their favorite club idea.
He partnered again with the Student Council to help review the 26 club submissions using the rubric he created. Four clubs were chosen: Lego Club, Craft Club, Sports Club and Talent Club. Carson created certificates for all the students who participated and the winners of the contest. He then announced the winners over morning announcements. Carson will now pair up each student club with a teacher supervisor to help launch the clubs in April and May.
Carson used his recess time and any free moment to work on this project. Carson didn’t even submit his own club idea, he just wanted to help others bring their club ideas to life!
For his creativity, determination, and hard work on the Club Creating Contest, the Board of Education is proud to award Carson Koverman the Above and Beyond award for March.
