Westfield Band and Choir St. Louis Trip - The Westfield Concert Band and Concert Choir members had an excellent experience participating in the April 27-28 Worldstrides Heritage Performance Festival in St. Louis. Both groups performed for a panel of 3 judges, with 1 judge coming up to the stage after the performance to work with the students. The Concert Choir members gave a wonderful performance, earning a Silver rating from the panel of adjudicators. The Concert Band gave an excellent performance as well, earning them a Gold rating from the judges. In addition, the Concert Band was awarded the Adjudicator's Award trophy for their high scores from all 3 judges. They will be invited to the National Invitational Festival of Gold Festival, which will provide the band with the opportunity to perform next year in Symphony Center, the home of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Furthermore, 3 of the Concert Band members were honored with the Outstanding Student Musician awards for their performances in the band. Those students are Isabelle O. on flute; Brian W. on alto sax; and Daniel S. on percussion. The final honor bestowed upon the Westfield music students at Saturday's awards ceremony at Six Flags was the Spirit of St. Louis award. This award is given to the school that best represents their home town by displaying positive school spirit, attitude, character, and behavior. All of our trophies and plaques are displayed in Westfield's Main Office, so stop by and have a look. Congratulate all the band and choir members today for an excellent job in St. Louis! District 13’s Virtual Backpack - School District 13 is using a Virtual Backpack for distributing information to parents. The Virtual Backpack is helping us “go green” by allowing approved non-profit community organizations to post flyers online instead of making and distributing hundreds of paper copies. Doing so will also save the district and community members a tremendous amount of time and money.
